Piano Series: Chris Andrew-Michael Cain Piano Duo (Calgary/Brandon)

Two great jazz pianists meet on The Bassment stage in Saskatoon to perform on two great pianos. Calgary’s Chris Andrew is a recipient of CBC’s Galaxie Rising Star Award and has worked with everyone from jazz legend PJ Perry to contemporary country crooner Paul Brandt. American Michael Cain has played with Jack DeJohnette, Joshua Redman, and Bobby
McFerrin. Michael is also
a much-respected teacher and is an associate professor at Manitoba’s Brandon University. This evening will also feature two very fine grand pianos: the Mendel Art Gallery’s Bosendorfer 200 and the Kinsmen Yamaha S6.

Roots/Piano Series: Julian Fauth – Solo Blues Piano

Winner of the 2009 Juno for Blues Album of the Year, Julian Fauth is a two-fisted-piano-pounding-blues-shouter with an entertaining show of blues and barrelhouse originals and covers. Forced to cancel his June 2010 Bassment gig due a nasty fall in the bathroom, Julian swore off showers, spent six months healing up, and is now ready, willing, and able to make his Bassment debut.

The Brett Balon Quintet – Brecker Brothers Tribute

No standards here – this group of talented young musicians are set to tackle the music of the legendary Brecker Brothers. Tonight’s performance will feature arrangements by the band, including the Brecker’s signature tune Some Skunk Funk. The Quintet includes Brett Balon – keyboards, Adam Streisel -trumpet, Paul Suchan – sax, Richard Haubrich – guitar, Dave Anderson – bass, and Arlan Kopp – drums.

The Bassment Big Band
